Information for authors

Welcome to the 1in200.uk scheme. The application process collects basic information to support your application and ensures that each book meets the quality and suitability standards set by participating bookstores.

Each bookstore has the final say on whether your book can be stocked. The key criteria include:

  • The book’s production quality must be high enough to sit alongside other titles in-store.
  • The content must be appropriate for the bookstore.

If your book passes the quality assessment, you will receive a contract to join the scheme, and your books will be in store in the next available quarter.

PLEASE NOTE: The scheme is now open to authors living in Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire.

How the scheme works

1 – Apply Online
2 – Quality Check
  • If your book meets the required standards, you will receive a contract to join the scheme.
3 – Fees
  • If your books are selected, the current fee structure is £10 per quarter for up to three books in up to three stores. There is an additional £5 charge for up to three further stores. This is payable before your books are displayed for sale. The fee structure is under constant review to ensure it is economically viable for the authors and 1in200.uk. Any fee changes will be notified to all participants by email.
4 – Bookstore Placement
  • Once accepted, your book will be displayed in participating bookstores for three months.
5 – Sales & Reviews
  • If your book sells, you can renew for another quarter. Each book sold will contain a branded bookmark requesting a review, which will appear on our website.

  • The selection of books by bookstore owners is quite subjective based on their own preferences and what they believe will sell in their stores. For these reasons, please don’t be offended if your book is not selected.
  • The scheme runs on a quarter by quarter basis, starting in April 2025. The closing date for applications for each quarter will generally be a couple of months before the next quarter starts, to give time for submitted books to be reviewed and selected by the book stores.
