The Birds Were The Only Ones Singing
Matt Dolezal
£8.99
SYNOPSIS
The Birds Were the Only Ones Singing is a diverse anthology of poems that reflects the world around us. Split into six chapters, the poems are drawn from the poet’s personal experiences and explores nature, community, folk, love, loss, and metamorphosis. Dolezal details his own personal sense of escapism into nature and where he finds solace. The poems ask readers to question where they feel most at peace. The chapter reveals how elements in nature can be a metaphor for human greed and deception. Themes of community and how governments and regimes can divide a community are explored in the chapter Community. The final chapter titled Metamorphosis is the surreal exploration from the world we live in and becoming emersed into the forest. All the poems explore different themes, but some echo each other. Some are fun and are written with humour, while others are more serious. The Birds Were the Only Ones Singing is a poignant poetry collection and details how humans experience, love and loss and how we face our own mortality.

SYNOPSIS
I have been interested in photography for as long as I can remember. I had a 35mm film camera back in the day and I would take pictures of anything: people, birds, animals, landscapes, mountains, the moon, the sun … you name it. I have a genuine love of flying creatures and birds are drawn towards me like I am drawn towards them. With the advent of digital I bought several Canon cameras and other photographic equipment. People who saw my work were really impressed and several asked me for prints. To expand on this I self-published my book. The images are the result of patience and awareness, as every movement is captured in the blink of an eye. I hope the results speak for themselves!

Chiltern Trails and Tales
Dr Jill Eyers
£5.99
SYNOPSIS
For those wanting to get away from the roads and the bustle of modern life there are numerous green lanes, bridleways and footpaths that cross the hills and valleys of the Chilterns. Or perhaps a gentle stroll along the meandering Thames, a saunter through a woodland, or a more bracing route along the scarp of the Ridgeway path. This book indicates some of the best places to visit. The trails are not prescriptive – no detailed ‘turn left here, then right’ and so on, which can be totally confusing, especially if landmarks change. What this book has, that others do not, is some interesting background information and stories. It gives simple explanations of what makes landscape, explains the underlying geology, what nature you can see, as well as any archaeology and history to be discovered on the trails.

The Hunting of the Shark
Bill Heine
£14.99
SYNOPSIS
It’s 1986 and American jets take off near Oxford to bomb Tripoli and take out Gaddafi… meanwhile another missile has crashed through the shattered tiles of a quiet Oxford suburban home. This is a true story. Dive into this book which celebrates the 25th anniversary of one of England s quirkiest icons. The Hunting of the Shark spills the guts for the very first time on how this bizarre 25-foot fibreglass sculpture was conceived, constructed, erected, and kept up on the roof against the full blast of Oxford City bureaucracy.
Told by Bill Heine who commissioned its birth, plus exclusive sketches and artwork from the sculptor’s own notebook and never-before-seen photographs of the erection in fragrante, The Hunting of the Shark reveals and re-lives a fascinating slice of English eccentricity. Part-Picaresque, part-Pythonesque, this tale of art, anarchy, and architecture reveals how a 7-day wonder became one of the country s most controversial landmarks.
